Relatives It Might Pay to Know - Antiques and Collectibles Learning
My husband and I retired around the same time, and things were starting to get pretty tense. We've always been busy with working and raising our children, so being around each other 24/7 without some kind of common interest was a real struggle. I went back to school finished my degree, but health problems are preventing me from working. I just had to find something to do, but what?
While attending a funeral for my father's wife, I started getting to know my aunt. Since my father had never really been the picture, I never had an opportunity to get to know his side of the family. It was like I had know her for years. She started telling me about her interest, which included antiques and collectibles. She had owned a very successful antique shop for many years, yet I had never even been to it. Even after she closed her shop, she rented space in a local flea market and continued to keep her fingers in the antique business. She had talked about it with such passion that I became intrigued, so I have decided that I am going to try and learn. Thank goodness, my husband decided he is also interested in learning because with my bad back and other issues I would not allow me to to do this alone.
I thought we might not be the only couple who have a need for a mutual interest. Either me or my husband are going to be posting to the blog as we learn this business. I learn better from books, and he is a hands on learner. My aunt says we will make mistakes along the way, and that's the way we'll learn. At least we have my long lost aunt as a resource. Sometimes it does pay to get to know your relatives, at least some of them anyway.
